 Kimolos indeed has some unique local products. The white-silver quality of perlite and cimolite which is extracted from this island is a major trading product. Chalk is the major export product of Kimolos today. Among the local recipes, you should definitely try Kolokythenia, which is a pumpkin pie, and Ladenia, a local pizza prepared with olive oil, tomato and onion.
Besides, there is a very tasty local snack prepared from tomato paste, which is worth trying. The Amarathopita cheese pie and a special fish pie prepared with small fishes and onions known as "Atherinopita" are also quite popular. Some significant products of Kimolos are dry wine, honey, the prickly pears and a great white cheese, known as Manouri. |
