This picturesque port was built on the natural harbour and the ruins of the ancient port and the old coastal town. This place is famous for many reasons, being one of the most outstanding ones the fact that used to hold the statue of Kouros, an ancient monument dating to the 6th century BC, now displayed at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

One of the most unforgettable pictures of Kea that first catches tourists’ attention is the view of Korissia port located in a hilly area, and surrounded by white-washed houses, with colourful tile roofs and built in a traditional style. If readers look at the map they will find Agios Nikolaos bay on the western area of Kea island – Korissia port is located deep within this beautiful bay. This natural port is considered one of the safest harbours in Greece. Korissia is located at just 6 kilometres far from Ioulida – the island’s capital. Both Korissia and Chora (Ioulida) are built on a hill, in the shape of an amphitheatre, and show an impressive view of the two-storey buildings with steep cobbled alleys, and some well preserved churches with interesting wooden carved icons in them.
