Crete Fodele Heraklion: A small seaside village about 27 km west of Heraklion Town, Fodele is a family place with a large sandy beach. Although the village itself is not much developed in tourism, it is located close to popular tourist resorts, such as Agia Pelagia and Bali.

The gulf of Fodele is partly protected from the winds, except for soem days in August when the meltemia winds raise high waves in northern Crete.
 
The long beach is sandy and has crystal water. Along the coast, there are some fish taverns with delicious local dishes and some rooms to rent.

Tradition says that Fodele is the place where Domenicus Theotokopoulos, the famous Medieval painter also known as El Greco, was born. In fact, the house where he was born has presently been turned into a museum dedicated to his life and work.
