Decision to create the House of Elytis

After the decision of the Greek Central Council of Modern Monuments, a two-storey building in Plaka will be renovated accordingly so that it hosts the house of Odysseas Elytis, this important Greek poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1979.

The building at Dioskouron and Polygnotou str in Plaka will be called House of Elytis and will include an exact representation of the poet's study room and an exhibition of his archives. The representation of the office will be housed in the ground floor and will host the original furniture of Elytis. The exhibitional space will include first editions of his poetry collections, manuscripts, many paintings of the poet and indicational translations.

The basement of the building will be used as a library and will host books on the work of Elytis, magazines, workbooks, posters and newspaper articles. On the first floor, there will be an information desk, event hall and coffee place.
