The Museum of Alex Mylona- Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens Greece: In the beautiful and historical quarter of Thissio, in the centre of Athens, there is the interesting Museum of Alex Mylona. The museum opened in March 2004 and in 2007 it was donated to the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, which is based in Thessaloniki.
It exhibits works from the 50-year-old career of the sculptor Alex Mylona, including her beautiful works on marble, copper, iron and bronze. The museum also exhibits drawings and paintings in the two out of three levels. On the first floor, exhibitions of modern Greek and foreign artists are periodically presented, in collaboration with the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art.
The building of the museum is an impressive Neoclassical structure built in 1920 by the architect Vasilis Tsagris and accordingly renovated so that it gives access to people with special needs. From the wonderful terrace, visitors can get a perfect view of Athens from Lycabettus and Acropolis to Keramikos. The museum is accessed from Monastiraki and Thissio metro stations. |
