The Municipality of Lefkada has recently come into an agreement with the National Bank of Greece for funding the reconstruction of the house of Angelos Sikelianos (1884-1951) in Lefkada Town. Sikelianos was an important National Greek poet, who became worldwide famous for his efforts to revive the Delphic Idea, together with his wife Eva Palmer.

Angelos Sikelianos was born and lived in Lefkada island until the age of 18 years old, when he moved to Athens to study at the University. His house in Lefkada was left for many decades in ruined conditions, as the local municipality lacked the 800,000 euros that we were required for its reconstruction.

After the agreement with the National Bank of Greece, the major of Lefkada announced that renovation works will start within the next month to turn the house into a museum of Sikelianos, exhibiting personal items and work collections of the poet. This is why the municipality has also started a marathon effort to track possible displays and persuade their owners to donate them to the museum.
