Lefkas International Folklore Festival 2023

Being a highly-anticipated festival for folk lovers all around the country and parts of the globe, the 61st rendition of the Lefkas International Folklore Festival will be taking place from the 20th of August up until the 25th of August, 2023, inside the building hosting the Cultural Center of Lefkada!

A festival promoting the values of peace and mutual understanding, Lefkas International Folklore Festival unites foreign cultures together via the custom of dancing, acting as a lighthouse for folk cultures all around the globe! This year’s fest will include the legendary Lefkadian folk collective Orfeas, the Ballet Folclórico Maya from Queretaro (Mexico), the CreaDanza Artistic Company from Cali (Colombia), the Listra Unpar from the Parahyangan Catholic University of Indonesia, and the future-and-past-blending Japanese group Makoto Juku! Alongside the dances, the festival’s Traditional Art Collection exhibition will also be open to the public, offering a view of the earliest days of Lefkas International Folklore!

Ever since 1962, this festival has hosted an array of world-famous dance groups, such as the revered group from the Central African Republic, the Fundacion Danza Libre from Bogota (Colombia), the Mayan Grupo Sotz’il, and the Calabruix Escola de Ball from Mallorca (Spain)! Furthermore, Lefkas International Folklore Festival has been visited and supported by people such as the world-famous soprano Maria Callas, the business tycoon and multi-millionaire Aristotle Onassis, the live commentator Alexis Kostalas, and the ex-secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan!
