A great donation was recently made to the Museum of Asian Art in Corfu by the esteemed collector Ioannis Sartzetakis. The donation included 309 valuable items, including magnificent pieces of art and other objects from Central Asia and Japan. A great part of the donation includes mainly fabrics, garments, painted abstracts, small statues, jewelry from India and some single objects from China. All these date from the Prehistoric era until the 20th century. This unique collection of jewelry was obtained during the journeys of the collector and his wife, R.L Daton, and from several auctions in Europe, the USA and Canada. This donation is very significant for the Museum of Asian Art, the only of its kind in Greece. The exhibition titled "Iasonas Daton Sartzetakis Collection" will present most of the items of the donation, such as crafts, Persian carpets and garmets of the 19th century. The Museum of Asian Art is housed in the Palace of Saint Michael and George in Corfu Town and it already counts about 10,500 objects.
