Anek Lines was created 40 years ago by Cretan shareholders who wanted to connect their island with the rest of Greece. Nowadays, Anek lines is considered among the biggest Greek maritime companies and its ferries cross the Aegean and Adriatic Sea, offering its passengers comfort and safety. Anek lines owns several ferries that serve its itineraries.
F/B El. Venizelos: It is the largest passenger vessel in the Mediterranean. This ferry was built in 1992 at the Gdynia shipyards in Poland and has 12 decks and four engines. It can carry 2,500 passengers and 1,100 vehicles. This vessel owes its name to Eleftherios Venizelos (1864-1936), the Greek prime minister who deliberated Crete from the Turks in 1905.
F/B Olympic Champion: It is the fastest ferry in its category as it needs only 15 hours to go from Igoumenitsa, Greece to Ancona, Italy. It was built in 2000 at the Fosen shipyards in Norway, has four engines and can carry 1,850 passengers and 1,100 vehicles.
F/B Hellenic Spirit: It is the “twin” vessel of F/B Olympic Champion and has exactly the same characteristics. It was built at the Fosen shipyards, Norway, in 2001.
F/B Lefka Ori: This ferry was built in 1992 at the Shimonosheki shipyards in Japan but was transformed in 2000. It has two engines and can carry 1,500 passengers and 1,100 vehicles.
F/B Sophokles Venizelos: This ferry owes its name to the brother of Eleftherios Venizelos, who was also a politician. It was constructed at the Shimonosheki shipyards, Japan, in 1990 and was renovated in 1999. It carries 1,500 passengers and 1,100 vehicles, while it has two engines.F/B Lato: Lato, or Lito as others pronounce this name, was the mother of god Apollo and goddess Artemis. It was constructed at the Setoda shipyards, Japan, in 1989 and has the possibility to carry 1,800 passengers and 850 vehicles, providing at the same time all kind of comfort, from discos and restaurants to swimming pools and fax machines.
F/B Crete I and F/B Crete II: They are “twin” ships and were built in 1997 at the Mihara shipyards, Japan. They were built in the same way and the same specifications. They are both able to offer all kind of facilities to their 1,600 passengers and can carry 1,200 vehicles.
F/B Lissos: This ferry was built at Mihara, shipyards, Japan, and was fully refit in 1989. It got its name from the ancient port of Lissos in Crete, Greece, and carries 1,900 passengers and 600 vehicles in safety and comfort.
F/B Prevelis: It was renovated in 1995, at the Imabari shipyards, Japan and was named after the Monastery of Prevelis, in Crete, which contributed a lot to the Cretan Revolution against the Turks, in the 19th century. It carries 1,500 passengers and 450 vehicles in safety and comfort.
