In the island of Lesvos, Eastern Aegean, the young explorers enjoy the unique experience of the fossils excavation at the famous Petrified Forest Museum of Lesvos. The educational program takes place for 4 years till now, at the facilities of the Museum, in Sigri. The children of Lesvos, both the locals and those who are on the island for holidays are offered much knowledge by playing. The activity is based on the idea that the little ones have the part of The Young Paleontologist and they begin with an excavation at the Petrified Forest, in order to find and identify fossil parts pf plants. The program’s aim is that the little explorers experience some creative moments, entertain themselves and make knew friends during their holidays.
Also included in the program is the game of The Hidden Treasure, where the children discover gradually information about the Petrified Forest, so as to be led to the excavation pit.
The program is attended by primary school children, as well as by teenagers.
