Effort to restore Teriant Art Museum

• Category: News
A large effort has started over the last months to save the historical Museum of Modern Art Teriant, which has suffered important damages due to humidity. In fact, the Central Board of Modern Monuments has characterized it as a monument of artistic, social and historical importance and soon its restoration works are about to start. The valuable collections that Teriant Museum hosts will be transfered to the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, so that a proper and safe registration of these works will be done. Teriant Museum opened in August 1979 and it is located at a distance of 4 km from Mytilene, in the village of Varia. It exhibits the work of the inspired artist, Stratis Eleftheriades-Teriant, who decided to donate all his work to his homeland, Lesvos. In the rooms of Teriant, there are also lithographies of Matisse, Picasso and Miro among others, as well as works of prominent Greek artists, including Theophilos Hatzimihail and Yannis Tsarouchis. The Central Board of Modern Monuments is also planning to restore the neighbouring Museum of Theophilos, which is also in bad condition. The photo is from www.newsbeast.gr
