Santorini Donkey Republic 2010

• Category: News
From early May till October 2010, 20 sculpted donkeys will form an open exhibition of sculptures. Just like Cow Parade a couple of years ago, this exhibition is adapted to the measures and standards of Santorini, the most popular island of Greece. Twenty artists have worked all winter with joy and imagination on these sculpted donkeys, in order to present the special culture of this unique island. The sculptures are scattered in particular spots around the island, reminding to everyone the great contribution of this animal to the local community. The sculptures are in natural size (1mx1.43m) and they have been constructed in the same factory as the Cow Parade. They are made of fiberglass and special anti-graffiti varnish, while they stand on a concrete basis. At the end of the tourism season, these works will be sold by auction and the revenues will be offered for the protection of the old donkeys that are hosted in a special house in Karterados Santorini.
