Megaro Gyzi Festival 2009

Painting Exhbitions, Musical Concerts and Shadow Theatre are combined this year in the Megaro Gyzi Festival 2009 that takes place in August (1st-23rd, under the artistic direction of Mr Yannis Papaconstantinou. All events take place in the Cultural Centre of Megaro Gyzi and start at 9 p.m. Entrance is free. The Megaro Gyzi Festival 2009 starts on August 1st with the opening of a special painting exhibition, hommage to the great artist Paris Prekas, who died 10 years ago, in 1996. This exhibition, entitled "The Lithographs in the Voyage of Paris Prekas", includes thirty large lithographs of horses, tankers and landscapes of Santorini and Greece, in general. This exhibition will be open for the whole duration of the festival. On August 4th, Trio Arte gives a musical performance with the leading soloists Dimitris Gouzios (cello), Apollon Grammatikopoulos (violin) and Yannis Michailidis (piano) interpeting works of Bach, Haydn and Dvorak. Eleni and Souzana Vougioukli will present with their thrilling voices the musical performance "Around the world in... octaves" on August 7th. They will sing in 20 languages and dialects, simultaneously playing the piano and the guitar. On August 10th and 11th, the exceptional shadow theatre player Athos Danellis takes his figures and presents two performances of Karagiozis, the typical shadow theatre character in Greece. On August 13th, the wondeful Greek signer Fotini Dara will present songs of composer Dimitris Papadimitriou and also other Greek and foreign songs. Her melodical voice and separate special performance is accompanied will be accompanied by piano sounds. Zoe Tiganouria (accordion) and Yiorgos Psihogios (piano, accordion), two skilled musicians, present a unique latin-tango-jazz performance on August 17th. A special musical concert will also be given on August 20th with Gagabunga Quintet of composer and pianist Yannis Arzimanoglou playing compositions of jazz, latin, bossa nova, salsa and mediterranean music. The Megaro Gyzi Festival 2009 closes on August 23rd with one of the best young performers in Greece, Kostis Maraveyas and his band. With his warm and familiar voice, the energy and his passion, Kostis will cheer up all spectators.
