The inhabitants and the local authorities of Kissamos village, 35 km to the west of Chania, are protesting for the degradation of their port, the second most important port in the prefecture of Chania. As they say, the Ministry of Marine Merchantise, without any previous communication with them, decided to alter the ferry itineraries that operate from 2000 and that give life to the port of Kissamos. More specifically, the itineraries are: - Piraeus- Kythira- Antikythira- Kissamos and back - Piraeus- Kythira- Gytheio- Kythira- Antikythira- Kissamos and back - Kissamos- Antikythira- Kythira- Kalamata and back These itineraries connected remote places to each other and gave an advantage for the tourism developement in the above areas. However, the ministry decided the ferries to depart from and arrive in the port of Rethymnon, which is a major degradation for the area of Kissamos. The authorities are meeting today evening to discuss their actions against this decision.
