Holidays in Saronic Islands

The Saronic islands are very popular Greek islands for summer holidays and weekend breaks. This is because there are the closest Greek islands from Athens. Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Spetses have developed a lot in tourism over the last years, while Agistri is not that famous but remains a true gem to explore. The crystal water, the relaxing atmosphere and the long history are the most distinctive characteristics of  Saronic Greece, which have a different character each. Poros is great for sailing, Hydra has amazing architecture, Spetses stands out for the elegant mansions and Aegina is ideal for family vacations. This Saronic islands travel guide will give you all the necessary information to organize your holiday.

    Villages

    Hydra town in Saronic

The villages in the Saronic islands, in Greece, have different architecture and each distinguishes for the unique character. The most impressive village is Hydra Town, a romantic little town constructed on the slopes of a hill around a port with amazing stone mansions and paved paths. Spetses Town also has something unique: it is more flat than Hydra Town but the architecture is different, as elegant white mansions line up the beach promenade. Poros Town also spreads on the hill slopes, while Aegina Town has many Noclassical elements. The most modern architecture is found in Agistri, as these villages there were founded the last century only. Beaches

Chalikiada beach in Agistri island, Saronic islands

The Argo Saronic is famous for the wonderful beaches with relaxing family atmosphere. Aegina and Poros have the best organized beaches in Saronic. The beaches in Hydra and Spetses are great, but they can be accessed on foot or by boat. The small island of Agistri also has amazing water, especially in Aponissos beach, while few coves are naturist places, such as Halikiada. Located in close distance to Athens, the beaches of these islands usually get most popular in the weekends, while in the weekdays they remain peaceful and private.
