| The Historic and Folklore Museum |
|
The Historic and Folklore Museum is in the close town of Kranidi. It gives visitors the chance of getting in touch with the history, as well as the traditions of the area.
The Historic and Folklore museum can be found in the centre of the town, near the metropolitan church of Taxiarchon. It is housed in an old building dating from the 18th century, known as "the house of Economou".
However, this is not the only site |
 |
South of Ermioni there is an area called "Bisti". Bisti hosts the ruins of important temples, dedicated to the goddess Demeter, and the gods Dionysus and Poseidon.
The town of Ermioni was a major trade centre. Historical buildings confirm the past glory of the town and are scattered among the simple traditional houses of the locals.
The monastery of Agii Anargyri is a good example of that. It was built on the foundations of a temple dedicated to Asklepios, dating from the 9th to the 11th century.

Another place that is not a museum, but concentrates a
high rate of historic importance,
is the church of Taxiarchon. The church is on the hill of Ermioni
and belongs to the 9th century.
The building that hosted the 3rd National Meeting, which treated the subject of Theodoros Kolokotronis’ leadership can be found outside this church.
Kolokotronis was a Greek
general that developed an important role against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek
War of Independence between 1821 and 1829. |
