Although the villages of Zakynthos were highly affected by a strong earthquake in 1953, thye have still managed to keep their traditional style, particularly the villages in the inland. Zakynthos Town, the capital of the island, provides a nice spot for evening walks.

Description: A small traditional village on the western side of the island, Agios Leon took its name from a 14th century church.

Description: Argassi is a popular tourist resort with many hotels and a clean beach in front. It gets very busy because of its closeness to Zakynthos Town.

Description: Exo Chora is a small, mountainous village with traditional architecture. It is one of the few villages that survived the earthquake of 1953.

Description: Maries is a picturesque village with nice view to the Ionian Sea. Maries is totally untouched by tourism and visitors can get a view of rural life on Zakynthos.
