Although the peaceful island of Kythira does not count on a wild nightlife, it does offer many lively festivals, especially in summer.
The most famous festival is the celebration of Panagia. It takes place on August 15th and it is held in the main square of Potamos. The Panagia festival, as well as the other religious occasions, includes traditional food, dancing and drinking.

As for the cultural events, a carnival parade takes place in Livadi village, on Sunday before Lent and is celebrated with much fun. A popular wine festival is also held in the first weekend of August in Mitata village, where wine is given free, traditional music is played and people dance.
