Kefalonia can be reached by plane or by ferry.

Travel there - Flights
Many people fly to Kefalonia by transfer from Athens. The flight takes about 45 minutes.
The Airport of Kefalonia is international and receives a few charter flights from some European cities, especially in summer.


Travel there - Ferries
Most people go to Kefalonia by ferry. There are ferries that depart from Patras and others that depart from Killini, in the Peloponnese. There aren't direct ferries to Kefalonia from Piraeus.
  If you are in Athens and want to go to Kefalonia by ferry, you can either go by bus to Patras (about 3 hours), in the centre of Greece, and then take the boat to Kefalonia (about 3 hours), or go by bus to Killini (about 4 hours), on the eastern coast of Peloponnese and then take the ferry to Kefalonia
(about 1,5 hours to Poros, 4 hours to Argostoli and 2,5 hours to Lixuri).

Moreover, Kefalonia is reachable by ferry from Italy, particularly Venice, Bari, Ancona and Brindisi.

There are also ferries from Kefalonia to other Ionian islands, such as Ithaca and Corfu.
