Description: It is supposed to be the Homeric cave where Odysseus (Ulysses) hid the gifts, when he finally came back to his homeland, given to him by King Alkinoos. It is a fine, atmospheric cave, illuminated by coloured lights.

Location: 3 km from Perachori village, north part of the island
Description: Literally meaning Old Village, Paleohora used to be the capital of the island during the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Venetian period. The ruins of those houses and of old churches with fine Byzantine frescoes are the only thing left of the village and very interesting to visit. A walk through the ruins of the old medieval capital of Ithaca will bring back the memory of the past, when the city was full of life, before its inhabitants abandoned it to move towards the coasts of the island.

Location: 16 km northwest of Vathy
Description: One of the oldest villages of Ithaca and also the second most important medieval settlement of the island. It hosts the beautiful Monastery of Panagia Katharon, of which impressive bell tower one can admire a unique view of Vathy town and the south part of Ithaca.

Location: In the capital of Ithaca
Description: It is housed in a building that once operated as an old generating station and the exhibits testify about the life of the people of Ithaca during the colonial period. Complete settings of bedrooms, kitchen, and sitting rooms from that period are also on display, as well as rare and poignant photographs of the earthquake that shook the island in 1953. |
Location: 5 km south of Vathy
Description: The Spring of Aretousa is supposed to be the spring described by Homer in the Odyssey, where Eumaeus, Odysseus’ swineherd, brought his pigs to drink and where Odysseus met him on his return, following the directions of the goddess Athena. The path leading to the spring is shade less and surrounded by ravines in some spots, so one has to be careful and not afraid of the highs.
