Ithaca can be reached only by ferry.

Travel there - Flights
Ithaca island does not have an airport itself. The closest airport is found on Kefalonia island, which receives daily flights from Athens (the trip takes about 1 hour) and regular charter flights from abroad. From Kefalonia, you can take the ferry that leaves from Sami and then arrives on Ithaca in 50 minutes.

Travel there - Ferries
Most people go to Ithaca by ferry. There are ferries that depart from Patras and others that depart from Sami, on Kefalonia. There aren't direct ferries to Ithaca from Piraeus.

If you are in Athens and want to go to Ithaca, you can either go by bus to Patras (about 3 hours) and then take the boat to Ithaca (about 4 hours), or go by plane to Kefalonia and then take the ferry to Ithaca. Most people prefer the first way.
