Parga Festivals, Greece: Information about the Festivals of Parga

Most festivals of Parga take place in summer. The main festival is called Pargina, which lasts for the whole summer and includes artistic events, mostly music concerts and theatrical performances.

The Kanaria festival is celebrated on August, 14th, to commemorate the return of the residents from Corfu, where they had migrated in the 19th century, after the sale of their town to the Turks.

Two series of boats, decorated in the Venetian style, arrive in the port of Parga, where they receive an amazing welcome, accompanied by music and fireworks.

On August 6th, the Pargiotes celebrate the transfer of their town, from its old position on Mt Pezovolo to its current position, near the castle.

In particular, they transfer the icon of the Holy Virgin from the church of Agioi Apostoloi to the small chapel on the island of Panagia. It is a festival of both historical and religious character.

Apart from these big festivals, there are also some painting and photography exhibitions as well as celebrations with traditional dancing, held all year round.
