Vatousa village Lesvos: Vatoussa is a preserved traditional settlement that dates back from the 10th century, located 63km northwest of Mytilene. It is an area where cattle-breeding is quite developed, which is why there is good production of dairy products. Today, the population reaches 425 inhabitants who are mostly farmers.
Vatoussa as well as three other villages in Lesvos have been declared "a traditional architectural complex" by the Greek Ministry of Culture. It is a village that captivates the visitors with its special architectural features, typical examples of the 19th century. The stone paved streets, the picturesque alleys and the impressive houses and mansions with the ceramic-tiled roofs compose the unique style of this lovely village. |
