Volissos village Chios: Volissos is located 38 km north-west of Chios Town and is the capital of the Municipality of Amani. It is a beautiful village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill, at the top of which stands a byzantine tower. The walls, the towers and other ruins of a medieval castle are overlooking the village, giving it a picturesque atmosphere.
The village has a population of about 500 inhabitants, most of whom are engaged in agrucultre ans farming. Some also believe that Volissos is the birthplace of the famous lyric poet Homer. Worth seeing around the village of Volissos are the Monastery of Agia Markella, the castle and the many water mills and Byzantine churches scattered. Some public services, a community clinic, accommodations, cafes and taverns are available in the village of Volissos.
