Volissos Chios
Volissos village Chios: Volissos is located 38 km north-west of Chios Town and is the capital of the Municipality of Amani.
It is a beautiful village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill, at the top of which stands a byzantine tower. The walls, the towers and other ruins of a medieval castle are overlooking the village, giving it a picturesque atmosphere.
The village has a population of about 500 inhabitants, most of whom are engaged in agrucultre ans farming. Some also believe that Volissos is the birthplace of the famous lyric poet Homer.
Worth-seeing around the village of Volissos are the Monastery of Agia Markella, the castle and the many water mills and Byzantine churches scattered. Some public services, a community clinic, accommodations, cafes and taverns are available in the village of Volissos.
