Nisyros is a small island of the Dodecanese famous for its Volcano. The volcano of Nisyros is dormant but still active and constitutes the main sightseeing on the island. Many volcanologists and geologists actually come for a visit in Nisyros to study the volcanic activity on the island. Other important places to visit are the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani and the Venetian Castle, both located in Mandraki. The Volcano of Nisyros is active and consittutes one of the youngest volcanoes in Greece. It is found close to Nikia village and it is the most visited site on the island.
This Castle is also known as the Castle of Panagia Spiliani. It was probably built in the 14th century by the Knights of Saint John and gives a great view of the island.
The name of this Monastery means "Virgin Mary of the Cave". It was probably built in the 15th century and hosts many ecclesiastical relics inside.

Description: This popular beach is a long stretch of sand, sprinkled with dark pebbles. Few taverns and rooms to rent line this beach.
