Regarding its location, it is on the southern coast of Serifos, next to Koutalas beach, forming opposite ends of a bay with horse-shoe shape. In fact, Ganema beach is actually part of Koutalas bay, as well as Vagia beach. After reaching Koutalas by car, it is necessary to walk around 25 minutes to find Ganema beach as it is at 1 km distance. On the other hand, the distance from Livadi, the port of the island, is about 7 km.
Unlike other beaches, Vagia and Ganema have some taverns where to have a drink without getting out from the beach area. These are usually taken advantage of by the yacht crews, as they anchor up nearby.
Koutalas is a popular beach and, although it remains a somehow unspoiled and non-crowded, it has no umbrellas or sun-beds, so you’d rather take some with you. However the taverns by the beach serve great food. Most visitors also take the opportunity to move towards the West, where there is a cave with stalagmites and stalactites.
On the other hand, the south west district from Chora to Koutalas is one of the most picturesque on Serifos, and apart from the beaches at this area, the typical villages and fishing ports are also very nice and provide good sights.
Knowing all these facts about Ganema and its suburbs allows for making plans schedule the mentioned destinations on the same excursion, and take the most advantage of all the beauty and facilities offered. Just remember that it is necessary to walk for a while from Koutalas to Ganema, so wear comfortable clothes and enjoy a great peaceful day away from the crowds, as well as some local delicatessen by the sea.
