Santorini Kamari Beach

General information

Kamari in Santorini is a famous beach resort of Santorini situated 8.6 km southeast of Fira, the island's capital. Similar to the landscape of Perissa, the beach is cloaked with black sand, while on the left side of the beach lies an enormous rock called Mesa Vouno that rises from the sea. The area is extremely appealing, especially at night when the rock shines in the dark. Kamari is fully organized, offering a wide range of facilities like sunbeds, umbrellas, and various types of water sports.

The traditional houses line the village, offering a beautiful view of the sea. Visitors can take a lovely walk along the waterfront. Due to the modern amenities, including hotels, restaurants, snacks, cafes, bars, and nightclubs, the village becomes quite popular with tourists during the peak season.

From Kamari, a road takes you up the mountain to Ancient Thira.

    My experience

I was lucky enough to win a holiday to the Seaside Apts three weeks ago, I am so anxious to voice my opinion of my stay. I am a travel reporter by trade, so this wasn't such a big deal, to give an honest and detailed report. With my friend Susan we set off from Dublin and sent a pleasant flight to Santorini, we were greeted at the airport in an extremely efficient manner and transferred to our apartments, although the coach stopped some distance away from the apartments and the walk after a long day wasnt welcomed. Nickos at the reception was extremely pleasant efficient and courteous a no nonsense checking in proceedure. Our cases were whisked away to our apts and were sitting waiting before we'd left the reception. The apartment which we were told were basic but clean was an understatement. We were greeted to a small but excellent laid out apartment with what I think was the best balcony of the whole complex,we overlooked the swimming pool and had a great vantage point. The was a single bed on the lower level and a double bed was located up a verticle set of stairs(this was a bit scary gong up and downAny one with mobility problems would prove difficult.)It lacked storage space in the upper level, which meant my clothes were in the wardrobe in the entrance hall. On checking out the other apartments they were quite vast but our apt's balcony made up for it. The pool area was small but very pretty and functional but with the beach so near a maximum of twenty people would make it quite crowded. The housekeeping was excellent the staff were kept on their toes, towels and bedlinen were changed daily I felt an extra special effort had been made. Choice of restaurants along the strip was plentiful and varied. Locals commented that the Seaside Apartments' restaurant was the BEST. Unfortunately our visit to the restaurant was a diaster amd the food was quite atrocious, we put it down to a bad experience.one which we did not repeat. We spent the week experiencing the culinary delights of other establishments, all very favourable Susan was a great fan of pizzas which the Greek cooked to perfection. Fish was my love and they presented it beautifully nad the taste buds were spoilt. For those who would intend to self cater, the two cheapest supermarket of the island were located less than 2 mintues away front the apts. My only complaint was the beach, it was pebbled stones, and shoes had to be worn to go into the ocean, the stones and build up of sand with a film of oil made it totally impossible to walk on, with ridges to traverse it was a long way out before you could swim.. just not my kind of beach, I never got to swim in the sea, I was disappointed. The bar area was at the front of the hotel, very pleasant and Nickos looked after it most of the time what with serving in the restauant he was a very busy young man. The entertainment was nil but I think with the right PR of the hotel entertainment could a simple and profitable for all. If the job was uo for grabs I would jump at the chance. The reprentative of XL.com Sarah was a very pleasnt young lady she was diligent and always seemed to appear at the appropriate times. She was knowledgeable and informative. Nightclubs were sparse to say the least, travelling to Fira seemed to be the order of the day but would be expensive to return from... A new nightclub Dom was newly opened and they hadn't got it right it had a lot to be desired. Bars were plentiful, one which stood out was Anna on the front which opened early for breakefast and then remained opened till 5am, husband brother and wife team ran it they were efficient and the wife being the better bar person.their best asset was Benny, waiter joker and PR he welcomed everyone.. On the whole I would comsider Santorina a real couples' holiday not really many facilities for children. I must say it was altogether a wonderful restful time. The weather was glorious and I wouldn't have missed it for the world, thank you XL.com

    Do jet ski and pedalo

We used to swim there while we were on holidays on Santorini because it was close to our hotel. The walk to the beach was enjoyable and the good thing is that it is close to many amenities, like mini-markets, taverns, and cafes. It has very clear waters and umbrella rentals. I liked practicing pedalo and jet ski there. It was much fun, we usually spent all day there!

    Had a nice time

I visited Kamari on June 2006. The beach is vast with a beautiful rock mountain to the right. The water was nice! My grandchild and I visited in the late evening so most of the chairs had been folded. There were not any sea shells to collect. The atmosphere was peaceful. However, what I did not expect was the semi-nude, topless bathing. Middle age foreign women laying around topless while young children played nearby. As I come from the USA and topless sunbathing is only allowed in designated places, I was not too pleased to expose my grandchild to such a sight!

A pebbly beach with beautiful views

Hello, I'm English and I'm 41 years old. In the spring of 2006 I visited Greece and the island of Santorini. I was staying in Kamari and since the area is the closest one to our accommodation I decided to go. I went on foot and it took me about 30 seconds. The road to get there is good. It is a long pebbled clean beach with beautiful views, and fully organized with sun beds and umbrella rentals. Also has proximity to a resort and is surrounded by hotels and other. Close to it were bank, mini market, restaurants, cafes, bars, bar, hotels and other accommodations. My favorite thing about it was the fact that is was pebbly. The only thing I would suggest to the authorities is to arrange easer access to the sea. My tip for future visitors would be possibly no cars allowed on the road.
