At the end of November, the Greek Minister of Health Dimitris Avramopoulos will inaugurate the building of a hospital in Santorini. The construction of a hospital has been a long demand of the inhabitants, as the one health center and the three community clinics that exist on Santorini today cannot cover the needs of the residents and the big number of tourists which flow on the island every summer. It is worth mentioning that only in a single year (2007), 92,000 of incidents were served by the Health Centre of Santorini. That is the number of the patients a small hopsital serves in a year. Moreover, the only hospital in the Cyclades is in Syros, which is quite far from Santorini. The hospital will be named "General Hospital of Santorini" and will be built in the area of Kartelados, in the center of the island, on a ground donated to the municipality by the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos in Imerovigli.
