Naxos Greece
is the biggest and largest of the Greek Islands of the Cyclades Greece, in the Aegean Sea. Naxos is located in front of Paros and near Mykonos. It is the nuptial isle of the god Dionysus and has the highest mountain of the group, Mount Zas. The island was for many centuries under the rule of the Venetians and Marko Sanudo.
Naxos Island is characterized by its venetian town, the many picturesque villages, the fertile valleys, the sandy beaches, the marble gate called Portara, the Kouros and the naxian food and tasty agricultural products.

:: The Villages

Naxos is a mountainous island. It has many lovely and picturesque villages with whitewashed houses, narrow bright coloured windows and doors and slate or tile roofs like: Apiranthos, Apollonas, Halki, Potamia, Koronos, Tripodes and others. The capital of the island, Hora, is a big and unique village in Greece. It has a well-preserved Venetian castle and it is full of beautiful whitewashed houses with small windows, surrounded by stone-paved narrow alleys.


:: The beaches

More than 98 kilometres of fine golden sandy beaches are surrounding the beautiful island of Naxos in Greece. All beaches have superb crystal-clear turquoise waters which are glimmering under the bright Mediterranean sun. Umbrellas, sun beds and water sports facilities can be found in some of those paradise-like beaches as well as many accommodations. Here are some of the most famous: Agios Prokopios, Plaka, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla, Sahara, Saint Georgios... Some of the beaches offer perfect wind conditions for the practice of windsurfing and kite surfing. Some other are paradise for snorkeling...
