Chania Windsurfing and Kitesurfing

Chania windsurfing

Although Chania and generally the northern coast of Crete are getting windy in summer, organized windsurfing centers are limited. A place for Chania windsurfing with an organized center is Elafonisi, a famous beach on the western side of Crete. This center also has a branch in Falassarna, another fantastic beach in western Crete. Apart from windsurfing in Chania, these centers also offer equipment and courses for kitesurfing.

Here are some Chania windsurfing centers. Each center is presented with detailed text, photos and point on Google map. If you have visited any of these centers, feel free to write your review. All request forms go directly to the manager of the center, so that you can make a reservation in person or ask them any question.

Get out of my way
Judging by the weather outside, summer is almost here and this reminds me of sea and sand. So I decided to delve into the archives and found this.

The story behind the shot:

Chania is a beautiful town - famous for its characteristic venetian-style houses and the pretty anutique harbour (as well as for being the capital of one of the four Cretan prefectures). A paradise for the photographer - if you have weather on your side.

When I was there the sun was bright and high in the sky and the sky itself was dull blue. Normal people totally fall for this kind of weather - after all, it's warm, it's nice to be outside and the sky is spotless. Not me, though. Because photographers are NOT normal people and need some drama.

So, while I was strolling around the harbour and taking pictures I saw those two sitting on a bench. Shots of people are not my exactly my element but I couldn't resist capturing this.

For the record - the lighthouse in the background is a famous building - there are several almost identical buildings all over Crete - one in Rethymno, for sure. Chania is famous with that one, though (as well as with a few other buidings I'll show you some other time).

Photoadvice:
The Venetian harbour is crammed with tourists, carriages and all kinds of people so you'll have a harder time getting a shot WITHOUT people in it than the other way round. The harbour is really picturesque in the late afternoon or after the sun goes down but you'll have to find an accommodation in the area.
