KTEL Buses in Chania

Below, you can find all the needed information about the buses in Chania:
Bus tickets & pricesRoutes

In brief, KTEL buses are the cheapest transport option in Chania. Numerous urban and suburban buses run every day, serving both tourist and non-tourist areas.
Visitors who want to be more flexible with their holiday schedule would benefit more from a rental car, though.

Buses are the most affordable means of transportation in Chania, with the urban routes being able to take you to most inhabited areas around the main town of Chania.
When it comes to suburban routes the KTEL buses of Chania, in cooperation with the ones in Rethymno, can take you to the rest of the Chania area and a number of villages, as well as the other big cities of Crete like Rethymno and Heraklion.

Bus tickets

The prices of the bus tickets range differently, depending on the destination.
For urban routes the normal ticket costs 1,20€ for Zone A, which is a more local radius that will not reach more than 5 km away from the main city. For Zone B the ticket costs 1,60€, with its range being wider.
Note: If you purchase your ticket inside the bus, and not from the specialized booths or the bus station, the prices will be different; 2€ and 2,50€ for zones A and B, respectively.

Regarding suburban routes, tickets range from 2,50€ for half-hour destinations to 16€ for destinations that take more than a few hours, such as Heraklion.

Condition

The bus routes are operated by 41 urban and 244 suburban buses. All of them are modern, with air-conditioning, GPS systems and luggage space, both as an overhead compartment and a larger space underneath the bus, which can be used for free.

Getting to your destination

In the case of city buses, anyone can embark on any of the discernible bus stops across the city and its surrounding area.
The suburban buses for both Chania and Rethymno are located in Chania, on Kidonias & Parth. Kelaidi Street, with certain annexes in important rural areas of Crete, such as Kissamos or Sfakia (only in the summer).

Frequency

The bus routes are more frequent during the summer to accommodate all visitors of Crete, with certain stops and bus stations operating only around that period.
