Chania Orthi Ammos beach

General information

Orthi Ammos is a small secluded beach on the southern coast of Chania, within a 10-minute walk from the historic Frangokastello Fortress and the main beach of Frangokastello. 

This beach is not organized and it is ideal for enjoying some privacy, so that part of it is unofficially used for nudism. Its defining feature is the high sand dunes that have given it its name. The cerulean color of the waters, the sand dunes and a few rocks scattered here and there create a landscape of unique natural beauty. Legend has it that these dunes have covered the bodies of dead warriors, whose ghosts can be glimpsed at dawn on early summer days.

On the eastern side, you will find some cliffs with lovely sandy coves, which can be accessed by walking in the shallow waters. Above the cliffs, there are several streams forming a small waterfall. On that spot, you will also find some clay with therapeutic qualities.
