How to get to Attica?

The International Airport of Athens Eleftherios Venizelos, located about 30 km from the centre of Athens, is among the largest in Europe and serves millions of passengers every year. This airport receives flights from many foreign countries to Athens and also domestic flights from the Greek islands and airports in mainland Greece.

Attica has 3 main ports: Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrion. These ports serve ferries to almost all Greek islands and few ports of the mainland. Most ferries depart from Piraeus, which is the closest port to the centre of Athens. These ferries go to almost all Greek islands, Crete and few ports in Peloponnese.

The other port of Attica, Rafina, is the closest to the international airport of Athens. This port serves ferries to the Cyclades, particularly Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Santorini and Naxos, and also a ferry to southern Evia. The port of Lavrion is located on the southernmost spot of Attica. It serves ferries to Kea and Lemnos all year round, while in summer it also serves ferries to few Cyclades islands.

Around Attica, there are also smaller ports that serve minor routes, such as the ferry connections between Oropos and Eretria, Rafina and Marmari Evia and also from Paloukia (Perama) to Salamina island.

There are daily trains from Athens to Thessaloniki and Alexandroupoli, via other towns of Greece on the way. These trains can be slow or express. There are also suburban trains (proastiakos) from Athens (city center and airport) to Corinth and Kiato. These trains are very frequent, almost every hour. The route from Athens to Corinth is 1 hour, while the route from Athens to Kiato is 1 hour and 20 min.

Attica is connected by bus to almost all towns in Greece. There are two KTEL (suburban) bus stations in Athens that serve buses to other towns. The largest is the Kifissos Bus Station and there is a smallest, Liossion Bus Station. Liossion Station serves buses to central Greece, Evia, Volos, and Pieria (Katerini). Buses to all other regions are served by Kifissos Station. The towns of Attica (e.g. Rafina, Lavrion, Markopoulo, Oropos, Megara, etc) are served by a bus station close to Viktoria Metro Station.
