Tourism in Meteora has developed to the impressive monasteries and the breathtaking rocks. In fact, Meteora is the second most important monastic community in Greece, after Mount Athos in Halkidiki. The entire area of Meteora, above the city of Kalambaka, is blessed with a unique landscape that consists of huge rock formations. The peaks of these rocks are adorned with the Byzantine monasteries which are considered living museums.
Meteora has been a unique place of interest for many geologists and most importantly an inspiration for thousands of pilgrims around the world. Meteora tourism is popular all year round. The closest tourist facilities are found in the city of Kalambaka. There is no tourism office but for urgent matters, visitors can address to the police station.
