Several remarkable monasteries and churches compose the religious map of Nafpaktos, most of which reveal a unique historical interest and excellent decoration. Agios Dimitrios is the metropolis of Nafpaktos and one of the most important churches of this town. It was established in 1978 and it operated 3 years later. It is built over the ruins of an older Byzantine church. The historical monastery of Panagia Varnakova, among the five most ancient monasteries in Greece is located 30 km from the town, on the way to Lidoriki. It lies on a small hill on a lush green surrounding with breathtaking view to the mountainous area. The monastery is regarded as the place of spiritual uplift.
In the heart of a peaceful verdant valley, close to Gavrolimni village lies the church of Panagia Panaxiotissa, part of a Byzantine monastery built during the late 10th century. Some kilometers from the main town there is the monastery of Agios Ioannis. It was founded in 1695 over the ruins of an ancient church. The church is extremely interesting displaying a great variety of colors and expressive frescoes. Today, the monastery is inhabited by 5 nuns. At the top of the Castle of Nafpaktos is the scenic church of Prophet Elias.

The picturesque church of Prophet Elias is located inside the Castle of Nafpaktos. Small in size, this chapel is made of stone and has a white cross painted on its front wall.
