Nafpaktos Architecture

Nafpaktos is a historical and picturesque town built amphitheatrically on the sides of the hill, between Delphi and Messolongi facing the northern coast of Peloponnese. The old town encircled by the strong walls has retained its unique character with traditional details, even at the modern structures made of concrete. In other words, Nafpaktos owns all the features of a picturesque town, abundant forests, natural springs, age-old plane trees, clean waters, flourishing gardens, a beautiful fortified port which is the smallest in the Mediterranean and the strong castle witnessing the Venetians strong presence among other conquerors that attracted the town.

Strolling through the cobbled streets of the traditional town is a unique journey in the historical periods of Nafpaktos. The stunning architecture of Nafpaktos is revealed in the Old Town with some splendid residencies with Venetian architectural elements. A fine collection of well-maintained two-storied houses, neoclassical buildings, and urban houses can be seen in the heart of the town like the Municipal Library. One of the highlights of Nafpaktos Greece is the Venetian fortress built on top of the town among other ancient fortifications. Of high interest is also the Tower of Botsaris, a fine example of medieval architecture that consists of two well-maintained towers.

Visitors can enjoy their stay in many of the traditional hotels that have respected the traditional architecture.
