The Ch. & S. Moschandreou Gallery of Modern Art was established in 1997 by the Moschandreou family in the city of Mesolongi. The choice of its location is not irrelevant; the family originates from the historic city and wanted to honor its roots, as well as promote the notion of modern art in regional Greece.

During the past 20 years, the gallery contributes tirelessly to the enrichment of the distinguished and upcoming Greek artists alike. Its diverse and extensive collection includes permanent and temporary exhibitions of engravings, sculptures and paintings.

The museum is hosted in a neoclassical building of the 19th century, located in the center of the city, across the metropolitan church of Agios Spiridon. The impressive edifice has undergone extensive restoration works during the period 1993-1997 in order to be transformed into a functional and modern exhibition center, for the proper hosting of the artifacts. The celebrated artists Alekos Fasianos and Maria Pop have also contributed to the decoration of the edifice.

The building has two floors: on the ground level, visitors can find the main exhibition, as well as a space for the temporary exhibitions and other events (such as lectures and educational programs) while on the second floor there are four exhibition halls, one of which also hosts the Gallery’s library which has an outstanding collection of more than 3000 book titles.

The Moschandreou Gallery frequently organizes cultural events and seminars as well as collaborates with other artistic institutions, both Greek and foreign ones.
