Restoration works in the ancient theatre

• Category: News
One of the most important monuments in Greece, the Ancient Theatre of Delphi is scheduled for a series of maintenance and restoration works, following the approval of the Central Archaeological Council. The theatre of Delphi is a monument with serious damages that requires immediate maintenance. This is not among the largest ancient theatres in Greece, but it is the biggest structure of the sanctuary of Delphi. This is also among the few theatres for which archeologists know the exact construction date and architectural design. In the antiquity, the theatre hosted musical contests that were part of the Pythia games and other musical festivals. According to the restoration study, which was based on the excavation reports of the French School of Archaeology in the 19th century, the restoration process includes the maintenance of the concave and the addition of seats when needed. Decay damages to the monument will also be preserved.
