Arachova Geography

A small and mountainous town in Sterea (Central Greece), Arachova belongs to the prefecture of Boeotia. It is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, at an altitude of 960 meters. Arachova has developed a lot over the last years as one of the most popular winter destinations. It is particularly popular for its amazing natural beauty, the ski centers that are located in close distance and the interesting history.

The nature around Arachova is lush green. Forests of fir trees and groves of olive trees dot the landscape of the region. The National Park of Parnassus is nearby, which provides a great place for trekking in nature. Three ski centers are situated north of Arachova: Gerontovrahos (17 km), Kellaria (23 km) and Fterolakka (26 km). These centers get very popular in winter.

The geography of Arachova reveals stunning regions, ideal for the nature lovers to explore. Close to Arachova, there is also a cave with rich stalactites and stalagmites. It is called Corykion Andron, or Sarantavli, and it is about 10 km from the town, reachable through a trekking path that passes by beautiful sceneries and small villages. The most famous villages around Arachova are Agoriani and Zemeno, that also gradually develop as tourist places.
