General information

Velanio beach Skopelos: The lovely beach of Velanio is located 5 km south east of Skopelos town and near the village of Stafilos, where a footpath leads directly to the beach. It is definitely one of the nicest beaches of the island with calm crystal waters and fine golden sand. It is protected from the strong winds. This beautiful beach is totally unorganized, surrounded by mountains and pine forests. It is the only official nudist beach on the island and a real marvel.

Above the beach are Minoan archaeological finds believed to be the ruins of the palace of the Minoan king Stafilos. This site is also where a royal tomb has been found containing various objects of great value as weapons, gold jewellery, vases and a golden sword attributed to Stafilos. Traces of an ancient settlement have also been excavated on the headland.
