Jul 26, 2016 — Aug 02, 2016 • Category: Events

The Skopelos International Film Festival for Youth is opening this year again to provide all its young audiences with a unique experience: this of filmmaking. From the 26th of July until the 2nd of August, children and young interessees (ages 8 to 18) will be having the opportunity to be part of a team that will be working together to create a film based on one of the most important features of the Greek landscape: the sea. In collaboration with the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, the young ambitious filmmakers will be working close with professionals from all over the world to create a series of short films.
Sea has been and still is a very important feature of the country. Greece has always served as an important naval crossroads due its strategic location and easy access from the sea. Many artists, poets and intellectuals have glorified and personified the sea as the mother of nature, while shipping has been one of the most crowded businesses in Greece.
The festival’s goal is to promote culture and the Greek spirit which is so closely related with the sea and the landscape. The festival is divided in three main sections. The first that will be taking place from the 26th until the 28th of July, will involve mandatory classes for Greek students. The second session from the 29th of July until the 2nd of August will include the making and shooting of the films under the auspices of the festival while on the last day, screenings of the short films will be held. Screenings of the films might also circulate among festivals of the world.
