Skiathos Festivals & Cultural Events

The local festivities that take place in Skiathos are followed by traditional food, live music and abundant wine for all the locals and visitors. The island highlights the importance of tradition and old customs through local fairs and celebrations.

Religious feasts & festivals

Agios Georgios
On April 23rd (or Monday after Easter if April 23rd is in Holy Week), the island honors the feast of Agios Georgios with large celebrations. On that day, horse races are organized, followed by an open panigiri where locals offer delicious dishes and dance the traditional dance of Kamara.

July 25th
On July 25th, there is a large celebration with dancing, food, and drinks on the occasion of the feast of Agia Paraskevi. The panigiri starts after the evening litany of the icon in the streets of Skiathos Town.

March 25th
On March 25th, there is a feast in the Monastery of Panagia Evangelistria, in the center of the island.

Cultural events

Katsonia Festival
The Katsonia Festival takes place in September in Skiathos island in commemoration of the Greek submarine "Lambros Katsonis" which was sunk off Skiathos, in September 1943, during the Second World War. On that day, the locals throw flowers in the Aegean Sea.

Bourtzi Festival
In the summer, various cultural events take place in Bourtzi, the old fortress located between the old and the new port of Skiathos. The schedule includes theatre performances, art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, even Greek-shadow theatre (Karagiozis) performances.
