The small community of Alonissos organizes various events of religious and cultural character all year round, particularly in summer.
Religious feasts & festivals
August 15th
The feast of the Virgin Mary is held on August 15th in Chora, the old capital of Alonissos, with a large panigiri in the village square. Visitors are offered food and wine and dancing last till the early hours. On that day, an old custom also revives, the traditional wedding of Alonissos.
May 21st
In the small chapel of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni, after the Holy Mass, the locals offer goat with pasta and hot rice pudding.
July 25th
On the evening of July 25th, the locals celebrate the feast of Agia Paraskevi with a litany around the streets of Patitiri and a large panigiri afterward.
Cultural events
Kalogiannia Sports Events
Kalogiannia Sports Events take place in May to honor the local benefactor, Antonis Kalogiannis. These events include mostly sports events, like pentathlon and running competitions, as well as few parallel events, such as musical concerts or theatre performances.
Threshing Evening
In July, there is a festival with the representation of traditional threshing methods on Alonissos island.
International Marathon
The island also has sponsored the first international Multi Terrain Marathon. Apart from Alonissos it also comprises some other 6 islands: Peristera, Skantzoura, Kyra Panagia, Ghioura, Psathoura, and Piperi.
