General information

Located around 2 km northeast of the main port, near the canal that joins the islets of Sferia and Kalavria, Askeli is a village built around the Progymnastirio, which was the first residence of King Otto. Today, the Progymnastirio houses the naval station and the sailors training academy of Poros, which were established by King Otto in 1846.

The village is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a pine-covered hill, offering panoramic views of the Saronic Gulf. Four serpentine roads start from the coast, climbing to the top of the hill. It boasts neoclassical buildings, modeled on the summer palace of King Otto, which was designed by the Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen.

Askeli is surrounded by two sandy beaches. One of them, Askeli Beach, is the biggest on the whole island. It also offers rooms and apartments for rent, hotels, cafes, taverns and a few shops.
