George Mavroides exhibition in Hydra

A small exhibition will take place till October, 24th at the Historical Archives of the Museum of Hydra. This important cultural institution hosts the work of an equally important Greek painter, who belongs to the artistic Thirties generation. The exhibition includes pieces of his work, photographs and mementos of the artist.
George Mavroides was born in Cyrpus in 1912, studied Law in Athens and then became a diplomat. He definitively quit his job in 1959 to dedicate exclusively in arts. He had been painting since the 1920s and was mainly inspired by human figures, reality and the Greek tradition. In the mid-1970s, he became director of the Athens School of Fine Arts. His artistic style was expressionistic. Apart from a painter, Mavroides was also poet and writer.
