1st International Ceramics Symposium

Renowned Greek and foreign artists of pottery will take part in the 1st International Ceramics Symposium that will be organized the two last weeks of September in Aegina, an island with a rich past in the ceramic art, as shown by the many ancient vases that excavations have brought to light. The meeting will include speeches, workshops and seminars that aim to promote modern pottery. The Schedule of the Symposium is as follows: Thursday, September 17th, 7-9 pm: Inauguration of the Exhibition of Modern Pottery with works of the participants in the symposium. The inauguration will be held in the Archaeological Museum of Aegina and the exhibition will be open every day (except Monday) from 8.30 to 15.00. Saturday, September 19th, 7.30 pm: Lecture of the archaeologist Irene Gratzia on The remains of Traditional Ceramics on Aegina. The lecture will take place in the yard of the Folklore Museum of Aegina. Wednesday, September 23rd, 10.00-12.00 am: Ceramic Workshop in Ikia (House) Karapanou. The workshop is open for the public.  Friday, September 25th, 8.00 pm till next morning: The traditional pottery artists Nektarios and Giorgos Garis will make ceramic pots in their workshop in Mesagros village. Around the fire where the pots will be "baked", there will be a feast with traditional music, local wine and food. Saturday, September 26th, 7.30- 10 pm: Participants of the symposium will work in front of public. A lecture of ceramist Maro Kerasioti will follow, in the yard of the Folklore Museum. Tuesday, September 29th, 5-7 pm: Exhibition of the works made during the symposium. The exhibition will take place in Ikia Karapanou and it will be open to public.
