For the next two weeks, the Folklore Museum of Aegina presents a painting exhibition dedicated to the famous ancient Greek geographer Pausanias. Inspired by the descriptions of Pausanias, notable but also new artists present their paintings for the ancient Greek landscape, seaside settlements, ancient temples in Attica, Peloponnese, Central Greece and Aegina, war destructions, and more. The exhibition will last from July 18th to 30th, 2014.

Pausanias was a Greek traveler and geographer, living in the 2nd century AD, in the times of Hadrian, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius. Born in Lydia, Asia Minor, he traveled on foot all Greece and recorded his trips in his famous, lengthy work Descriptions of Greece. His work survives in its whole today and constitutes the most valuable source for ancient towns, temples, traditions, gastronomy, statues, myths and other information about ancient Greece.
