Sparti Villages
Town
Location: 225 km south west of Athens, the capital of Laconia Prefecture
Description: Sparti is a modern town built in the 1830s according to an architectural plan. In fact, it is among the few towns in Greece that have been based on a plan, which is why it has ample squares and wide streets.
Geraki
Location: 40 km east of Sparti
Description: This is a beautiful village with interesting architecture. A medieval castle is built on a hill above the village and it offers great panoramic views.
Krokees
Location: 29 km south east of Sparti
Description: In the ancient times, it was famous for its mines, whose stones were used to decorate vases and public baths. Today, Krokees is a small town with traditional architecture.
Selassia
Location: 15 km north of Sparti
Description: This is a traditional, mountainous village that bases its economy in olive oil production. A popular festival is held there every August to celebrate this high quality production.
Vassaras
Location: 25 km north of Sparti
Description: Surrounded by vast vineyards and olive groves, Vassaras is a lovely village to get a view of life in the countryside.
