Peak of the Carnival this weekend

The Carnival festivities come to their peak this weekend in Patra Peloponnese, the town that organizes the most famous Carnival in Greece. Eleven floats and more than 30,000 people dressed in costumes will participate in the two parades, on Saturday night and Sunday at noon. Particularly, the parade of Saturday starts at 6.30 in the evening, while the big parade of Sunday will start at 2.00 in the afternoon. The float of the Carnival King is painted with the colours of a clown and the float of the Carnival Queen has flowers and the shape of a heart. The floats have been inspired from daily life, politics, science and current events. For example, the Carnival Big Bang refers to the creation of planets, the float No Smoking satirizes the Greek law for the prohibition of smoking and the float "Battle for parking" the problem of finding a parking seat in Greece. At 9.00 in the evening, the float of the Carnival King will be burnt in the marina of Agios Nikolaos, in the port of Patras, marking the end of the Carnival period. There will also be a performance with acrobats from Italy and a firework show in the night sky that will last for about 15 minutes.
