The city of Patra has a small airport that works only in summer. This airport is located about 10 km from the city centre, in the region of Araxos. It receives few charters and low cost flights from abroad. Outside the airport, there are taxis to get you to the city, from where you can get the bus to various destinations in the rest of Greece.

Ferries to Patra

Patra has one of the largest ports in Greece and it works as a large transportation hub between Greece and Italy. There is ferry connection between Patra and Italy all year round. Particularly, it serves ferries to the ports of Bari, Brindisi, Ancona, Venice and Trieste in Italy. The duration of these trips vary depending on the destination port but most lines work all year round, especially the lines to Bari, Brindisi and Ancona. Patra also serves ferries to some Ionian islands in Greece.

Train to Patra

There are no direct trains from Athens to Patra. You have to take the Suburban Railway (proastiakos) from Athens (Larissis Station or Neratziotissa Station) to Kiato and then you change train and take the normal train from Kiato to Patra. The itinerary takes about 3 hours and a half but delays may occur.

Buses to Patra

Suburban buses (KTEL) to Patra depart from Kifissos Station in Athens almost every hour. The trip takes about 3 hours but if the itinerary is express (without stops), it will take about 2 hours and half. There are also buses to Patra from many other towns in Greece. The bus to Patra from Athens also makes stops in other towns, such as Egio and Diakofto.

Car to Patra

To drive to Patra from Athens, you take the National Highway to Corinth and after you pass the Corinth Canal, you follow the signs to Patra. The road from Athens to Corinth is highway but after Corinth the road gets narrow and has only one line per direction. Construction works also frequently take place, which make the road even more narrow. The road trip from Athens to Patra is about 3 hours.
